  2. Start the habit. Buy one item, donate a similar item. This will keep closets, toys and shoes under control. Before you ring up the item, visualize what you will donate.
  3. Start with the easy areas, counters, cabinets, shelves and work up to the challenge areas you are dreading.
  4. Not sure where to start in the closet. Follow these guidelines for items to donate: haven’t worn in a year, doesn’t fit or its not flattering.
  5. Before tackling, paperwork – know what you legally need to keep the rest can be tossed or shredded.
  6. Remember – everything needs a place or it will just return to chaos and clutter. Regularly file, toss or put items away. Bonus Tip: Don’t buy organization tools until after you declutter, so you can buy what you actually need.
  7. If you feel emotional or overwhelmed, take a break. Its hard to make decisions you won’t regret when it becomes to much. Work in small time chunks.
  8. Use compartment boxes, for items like batteries and small toys.
  9. Don’t stop with your house, declutter your PC by deleting duplicate files, bad pictures and unused programs. It will run faster and you will find what you need quicker.
