Supporting Military Families

Hello Everyone,

USMC MarathonThose who know me well know that I love to run and I love to get other people to run with me. After many ½ marathons over the years it is now time to do the BIG one, the full Marathon: 26.2 miles!

I have chosen the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC on 28th October 2012. I am also using this personal challenge to raise funds and awareness for military families for Fisher House Foundation with Team Fisher House at the Marine Corps Marathon.  My fund-raising goal is $1000 and I really need your support to reach it.  Any contribution you can make is greatly appreciated.

Fisher House Foundation

For members of our Armed Forces, retirees, veterans and their families, the Fisher House program offers shelter and support during a medical crisis.  Fisher Houses provide a comforting “home away from home” while a loved one is undergoing medical treatment in an unfamiliar environment.   That special support is even more important when a family member is wounded or injured in military operations like Enduring Freedom or Iraqi Freedom.  By contributing to Fisher House Foundation, you can make a difference in the lives of America’s service members, retirees, veterans and their families when needed most.

Fisher House Foundation, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.  Donations are tax-deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law. The Foundation has received the highest possible ratings from the “watch dog” organizations that evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of nonprofit organizations:  for every dollar donated to Fisher House? Foundation, 96 percent goes directly into the Fisher House program.

The Marine Corps Marathon

I have heard it is a beautiful course through the Capital passing all the historic monuments, plus the weather should be cooler than Florida.  I have persuaded two of my friends to run with me, Michaela and Shannon. Together we are Team Tampa Bay Bootcampers.

Training has started and so far we are up to 15 miles!!! Just another 11 miles to add on to that!…Hard going but fun.

Update Sept-12

So far my longest distance is 17 miles, hard and fun sometimes!

Our goal before the race is to do at least a 20 mile run. If we can do more then great but over the last few weeks we are finding it harder and harder.

I always say running is both physical and mental, if you don’t believe you are going to achieve the distance you won’t…and if you haven’t prepared your body physically with the right food and water the previous week, then you will have problems.Kayla and I are learning so much each week and trying to implement it as we run.  Hopefully by the time we get to the 28th October …D Day we will be ready!

I am still fund raising for Fisher House and still have some way to go.

Thank you to those who have donated already.
